The shuttle valve is intended for systems where two inlet flows are directed alternately through a common outlet port.

Oil flow through either inlet moves a piston which automatically seals off and isolates the alternate inlet whilst directing flow to the outlet. The valve is designed to ensure that equal pressures on the two outlet ports cannot balance the piston centrally and thus prevent outlet flow. Inlet port isolation is normally by metal to metal seals, but for applications where leakage could be detrimental or hazardous, ‘O’ ring seals may be specified.
